Seabuckthorn - Linocut Print

Every Autumn, the scent of sea buckthorn fills the dunes and the gnarly spiky branches are weighed down with bright orange berries. This print is a takeover of sea buckthorn, and features the pattern created by the overlapping grey-green pointed leaves which, from a distance, reminds me of Hebridean tweed, angular with different flecks of colour dotted throughout.

🎨 How I Made It: This is a reduction linoprint, and is made up of five layers. I started with a pale, light-blue/grey background layer to reflect early winter skies. I followed this with a light silvery-grey to pick out the leaves of the sea buckthorn, and then two shades of orange - a light one and a rusty one - to depict the berries. It is finished with a dark green-y/grey layer to add definition to the leaves. I only made eleven of these prints, so you'll be owning one of a select few pieces.
